At Buvy Jewellery, we are committed to making changes for the good of our environment and to support a more sustainable future.
Our overseas manufacturer is based in Bangkok, Thailand and is recognised as a Green Factory. They commit to a sustainability strategy that incorporates saving water, energy efficiency, reducing waste and the unnecessary use of raw materials - as well as strict prevention of pollution and environmental toxicity. We care about the people who create and craft our jewellery. Our factory meets the highest standard of ISO certification, covering workers’ rights, safety and environmental concerns. All materials are ethically sourced with regular evaluations of suppliers to ensure they hold the same values and ethics for material sourcing and sustainability.
We focus on crafting small and season-less collections to minimise overconsumption and overproduction. Our philosophy is to create timeless and high-quality pieces to encourage long-lasting staples and better buying habits.
Our supplier has state of the art equipment for safe waste treatment. The water from their treatment plant exits the factory pure enough to be used to water the plants in the local area. Clean excess water is then let out into a canal close to the factory. The output is tested every month to ensure purity. Fumes from the plating, casting and chemical polishing department all go through a wet scrubber that neutralises them before release. All the dust from the filling and polishing department goes to a central dust collector. Metal particles of brass, pewter, silver, steel and gold are all removed and recycled, creating a working environment free of respiratory hazards.
Our new coating process is safe for the planet. PVD (physical vapor deposition) is a modern coating process that is economical and environmentally friendly. Many other metal coating options involve cleaning chemicals, pigments and other additives that can be harmful to the environment and the employees working with them. However, PVD coating does not produce any byproduct waste, apart from the electricity the machine consumes. The PVD coating process has a much lower impact on the environment as it produces significantly lower waste during its operation.
Our jewellery is shipped to you in biodegradable parcel bags to allow the materials to break down and return to nature. Currently, our jewellery boxes are not recyclable, however in our aim to ‘do better’ we will be updating to recyclable packaging for our next order. If you would not like to receive the jewellery box with your order, we offer the option of sending your jewellery in a biodegradable clear bag with recyclable kraft paper protection - you can select this option at the checkout.
